EMDR for children, teens, & adults
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences so they feel less overwhelming over time. At Empatia Counseling, EMDR is adapted for each client’s age and developmental needs—supporting children, teens, and adults in a safe, structured way.
For children, EMDR is often integrated with play-based approaches to help them express feelings and process difficult experiences without needing to rely heavily on words. For teens, it can support emotional regulation, self-esteem, and the processing of stressful or traumatic memories while honoring their growing independence. For adults, EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences, negative beliefs, and triggers that may be impacting current relationships, mood, or daily functioning.
Across all ages, EMDR works by helping the brain “re-file” distressing memories so they feel more like something from the past—rather than something currently overwhelming—supporting greater calm, clarity, and emotional resilience.
